My sister-in-law (Taiwanese) bought a Tom Tom a while back but hated it (couldn’t figure out how to work with it) and sold it after barely using the thing. I’m more concerned about what to get in Taiwan. In otherwords a unit bought in Taiwan will work in Taiwan and USA, but one bought in the the USA won’t work in Taiwan.ĭoes anyone have a recommendation of which unit to buy and which works best in Taiwan? I’ve tried several models and brands in the USA and all work well enough for me. It seems that the best bet is to buy a TomTom or Garmin in Taiwan and buy the US street maps when I take it back on trips to the US. I looked at buying a TomTom or Garmin in the United States, but none of the units you can buy there will work with Chinese. Even if the turn-by-turn directions are not as good as the US, just getting me back in the right direction when I get lost would be helpful. I don’t have the greatest sense of direction as it is, and add that to my poor Chinese, and Taiwan’s often poor or no signage (any funky road layouts), I’m thinking it would help me a lot to have this in Taiwan. I borrowed my dad’s GPS (a lower-end Garmin) and it was amazing. I had a number of sales trips over a couple weeks in Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Oregon, Washington D.C. I’ve been rather skeptical of GPS navigation systems until my last trip to the United States this past winter.
